This is what the Lord says:
“In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to reassign its desolate inheritances, to say to the captives, ‘Come out,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!”
Generation Now 2016 was a complete success. It started well and ended with a bang (quite literally). This success could not have been achievable if Pastor Jon had not been obedient to God’s vision and taken a step of faith to rally his leaders and youths to answer the Call. 6 months of intense preparation from asking for huge budgets to gathering 900+ youths all in the same venue can only be from the supernatural strength and almighty power of God. 2 days and 3 nights of heavenly festivity all began with willing hearts to see God move in the Now Generation.
There are so many amazing things that happened to tell but a word limit restricts me from telling you everything. Oh, if only all of you were there, you would know what I mean. Do grab a Narrowstreet youth or anyone who participated in Gen Now 2016 and make them tell you everything they’ve seen, heard and experienced. Search for testimonies with the hashtag #gennow2016 and at the very least, get snippets of insights to the Festival. But for now, allow me to tell you some behind the scenes stories of which only a handful know of. Get ready.
On Friday and Saturday morning, the Committee, Worship Team and Leaders had a corporate prayer meeting at 6AM. Now, I am definitely not a morning person and I need my 8 hours of sleep. My family can tell you of how grumpy and crappy I can be when I have to engage in conversation before my breakfast even. So to even come for 6AM prayer after only 4 hours of sleep, that is a huge feat for me. The best part is, I was given supernatural strength from God which sustained me throughout the entire event. So all glory to God that I didn’t bite off heads at all, yay!
Back to the prayer meeting.
For the longest of time now, our church and our youth ministry have been praying and fasting for an outpouring of Godly encounters through an Open Heaven and Heaven to come on Earth. Again in those two early dawn prayer meetings, a few of us also received visions and words of knowledge about what God was and/or is going to do throughout the days. We saw People in White walking around the auditorium, touching the seats and bowing over them as though in prayer. We saw the word “Heaven” associated with a picture of chilli flakes. We heard the conviction that we are always just asking for Heaven on Earth but are we really ready to receive it when it really does come. We heard the revelation of the song “Let Heaven Come” which starts of personally (Our Father in Heaven) and as the song progressed, the depth of emotions and worship in that song deepens and grows as we declare His Kingdom on Earth. We heard the reminder that we too should be praying and wanting for new personal encounters throughout the event and not just for the people who are coming in to encounter Christ.
God is truly amazing. And He works and manifests Himself in such magnificently larger than life yet personal ways. The number of times I had to just sit down throughout Gen Now and soak it all in is countless.
All of a sudden as I was typing the paragraph above, this quote came to me:
Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4b)
Woah God. How does that fit into what I’m trying to say here?
If you think about it, there are actually so many different voices out there. Man, we even have voices in us! And sometimes, they all sound so good; so enticing, so right, so satisfying; all at the same time! But the Bible or more specifically, Jesus teaches us that there is only One Voice that is true, of which we should be following.
“2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (John 10:2-5)
I think that the moment Narrowstreet opened the Main Auditorium doors in SMCC, Jesus had already opened up His mouth and allowed His sheep to hear His voice. His voice could have probably been heard in various ways and different decibels. Maybe it was through the messages Pastors Rudy and Jon preached, or the word Chelsi shared, or maybe even the simple obedience YB Hannah testified of. It could probably have been through the Praise + Worship, or the spiritual atmosphere and attitudes our Narrowstreet volunteers had when they were serving in their various roles. Or it might have been that Just One Touch from God. Who knows for sure but God.
But there is one thing we can be certain of: Heaven did open at Gen Now and Heaven did come on earth there and then.
Who or what else can be the reason behind our 30+ salvations INCLUDING 2 from the paramedics we hired and the many lives who have rededicated their lives back to Christ?
No. Only God.
4 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood. (1 John 4:4-6)
So what do we do now, Friends? Now that Heaven has come down (in Narrowstreet at least), what should we do?
Not lie around, of course!
Go out into your respective homes and communities and start being a blessing to others. Bring the change, light, JESUS to them. Honestly, there are many who have never heard of our great and almighty God. Many even seem to only have bad reviews about Christians and Christ. But you and I both know that that isn’t who God is. Our God is Love and He loves each and everyone of us. Like what YB Hannah said, when God created, He created everyone; all the Muslims, all the Malays, all the Chinese, Indians and the Natives of Malaysia amongst us Christians.
Let us bring Truth and Light to those who are being lied to and who are living in the darkness. Let’s see Heaven Open and God’s Kingdom come down upon the rest of our Malaysian brothers and sisters too.
